Can Claude edit videos? Yes, real recordings, on your PC

Claude does not open a video file on its own. Give it a program that exposes every editing action as a tool, and it edits like a person sitting next to you: it watches the take, decides where to cut and zoom, writes the captions and the voice over, and exports when you say so. On Windows, that program is Ciakko.

In one glance

  • What Claude can do: record, cut, zoom, add captions, chapters, texts and a voice over, make Shorts and thumbnails, organize the library, export.
  • How it connects: a local MCP server that Claude for Windows or Claude Code starts on your PC.
  • What it sees: frames of the recording, the transcript, the clicks and the typing, every edit already made.
  • What it costs: your own Claude plan. Ciakko adds nothing per edit.

What people try first, and why it falls short

The usual first attempt is a skill that makes Claude write a Remotion project or a chain of ffmpeg commands. For animated explainers, title sequences and batch conversions this works well, because the video is generated from code and code is what Claude writes best. For a recording of your own screen it works badly. Claude cannot see where you clicked, where you paused to think, or which minute is the one that matters, so it cuts by timestamps it guessed and you find out at the end.

Editing a screen recording is a visual job. The editor needs to look at the take, find the moment the interesting thing happens, and keep the parts a viewer needs. That is the part Ciakko gives to Claude.

What Claude sees and does in Ciakko

Ciakko records the screen, the cursor, the clicks, what was under each click and your voice as separate tracks. Claude reads all of it: the transcript with word times, the moments you typed or scrolled, the retakes you marked while recording, and frames of the picture at the times it asks for, either the raw recording or the video as it will be exported. Then it acts with the same tools you have: a zoom on the form you filled, a cut of the silence before you found the menu, a caption style, a chapter where the topic changes, a line of voice over where you said nothing.

With the take open in the editor you watch every change arrive, and each one is a single step that Ctrl+Z takes back. Claude never exports unless you ask. Before it writes words the viewer will read or hear, it reads the project brief you wrote, so product names come from you and not from a guess.

Filming a web app demo from a script

The other half is recording. Ask Claude to film a demo of your web app and it writes a short script of steps, opens the page in the Ciakko browser and plays the script at a human pace while Ciakko records: the pointer moves along a natural curve, clicks land on the controls by their names, typing goes into the fields at a person's pace, and each "say" step becomes a line of voice over at the right moment. Your own mouse never moves. A rehearsal run reports the step that failed before anything is recorded, and the automatic zooms work on the result because the clicks are recorded like yours.

How to connect it

Install Ciakko and Claude for Windows (or Claude Code). In Ciakko open Edit with Claude and press Connect next to the one you use. For Claude for Windows it adds its own entry to the Claude configuration; for Claude Code it runs the registration command for you. Restart Claude and ask, for example, "Edit my latest Ciakko take as a product demo". The full steps, with pictures, are in the user guide.

Three ways to edit a video with Claude

Remotion skill ffmpeg from Claude Ciakko with Claude
Best for Animated videos made from code Batch cuts and conversions Editing real screen recordings
Claude sees the picture Only the code it wrote No Yes, frames on request
Zooms on your clicks Written by hand No Automatic, and editable by Claude
Undo each change Through version control Keep the original file Ctrl+Z in the editor
Captions and voice over Separate services Separate services Built in
Platform Any, needs Node.js Any Windows 10 and 11

Where the other two are the better choice

If you want a video that does not exist yet, a product explainer with moving shapes and typography, Remotion gives Claude a real animation engine and Ciakko does not. If you need to convert a folder of files or cut a hundred clips at fixed times, ffmpeg is faster and free. Ciakko is the choice when the video is a recording of your own screen and the job is to make it watchable.

What stays with you

Buying, activating the license, signing out and starting with Windows are never done by Claude. In the Ciakko browser Claude never types a password; it asks you to sign in. When Claude deletes a take, it goes to the Windows Recycle Bin. Ciakko runs on Windows only, and the connection works with Claude for Windows and Claude Code on the same PC.

Questions about editing with Claude

Can Claude edit videos?

Not by itself: Claude reads text and images, it does not open a video file and change it. It can edit a video when a program gives it the tools to do so. Ciakko is such a program on Windows: through MCP it lets Claude look at a recording frame by frame, read its transcript and its clicks, and apply cuts, zooms, captions, voice over, chapters and exports.

Can Claude Code edit videos?

Yes, with the same connection. Ciakko adds itself to Claude Code with one button in the Edit with Claude dialog, the same way it adds itself to Claude for Windows. From the terminal you can then ask Claude Code to edit your latest take or to film a demo of a web app.

Is there an MCP server for video editing?

Ciakko is one. Its bridge, ciakko-link, is a local MCP server that Claude starts on your PC. Every action you can do by hand in Ciakko is a tool Claude can call: recording, editing, captions, voice over, Shorts, thumbnails, the library and export.

How is this different from Remotion or ffmpeg with Claude?

Remotion and ffmpeg let Claude write code that produces or transforms a video. That is excellent for animated explainers and batch conversions, and it is blind: Claude writes the commands without seeing the result. With Ciakko Claude edits a real recording it can see, and every change it makes appears in the editor as a step you can undo.

Does my video go to Anthropic?

The recording stays on your PC. When Claude looks at a take, Ciakko sends it the frames it asks for as images, and those images become part of your Claude conversation like any picture you paste. Captions are written on your PC, and the voice over text goes to Microsoft Azure Speech to be read aloud.

Does it work with Claude on the web or on a Mac?

No. The connection is local: Claude for Windows or Claude Code on the same Windows PC where Ciakko is installed. Claude in a browser tab cannot reach a program on your computer.

What does it cost?

Your own Claude plan, and Ciakko itself. Ciakko calls no AI service of its own for editing and adds no cost per edit. Editing with Claude is part of the 14-day trial; after it, it needs a license.
